Levi the Dog needs a home
This handsome boy was found as a stray, dragging a chain around his neck. He befriended a local senior boxer that belonged to an animal lover in her late 70’s who desperately wanted to help him. Levi, as a young, active dog was too much for her to handle, so she found a spot for him to stay on her friend’s farm until she could figure out a solution, and contacted our SC team for help.
Levi is now living in a proper foster home as he under undergoes treatment for heartworm. He’s being fostered with other dogs, cats, and two young children, 3 and 6 years old. Levi’s foster mom, Amy, describes him as quite mellow and good with kids, but since he is a strong dog and not always aware of his surroundings, he’s probably best with kids out of toddler stage. He likes to play ball with the kids, and also enjoys just hanging out on the couch watching TV.
He’s been great with both small and large, and was very gentle with the resident 9 lb pup in his foster home. Levi a more confident pup, and would be a great companion for a dog who needs another dog to be the pack leader. He’s not ideal with cats, while he has not shown any aggression towards them, he wants to play and chase, so the cats don’t really appreciate him.
Levi has a pretty moderate energy level, but is always eager to play outside. He’s mellow compared to other pits we see, and likes to walk around the backyard and explore. He really doesn’t chase squirrels, he just patrols the yard and sniffs around. Levi is new to leash walking and still working on his leash skills. He is very strong and pulls, so he needs practice, and a capable handler. He is 100% crate trained and potty trained, and knows basic commands like “sit” “stay” and “leave it”.
Amy describes Levi as a 100% snuggler who would like nothing more than to cuddle up with you on the sofa or bed. He is eager to meet new people and other dogs. He may jump up in excitement, but does well with immediate correction. He would be fine as an only dog or with another social pup. He likes to play, but can also keep himself entertained. He enjoys playing with a rope/tied sock and is the cutest b/c he bounces like a bunny! He also enjoys his own quite time chewing his bone or just sleeping.
Overall he is a very smart, social dog who wants to please his person/family and loves to snuggle. He needs some basic training and someone who will reinforce and reward the right behaviors.
