Susie the Cat needs a home
We come across some pretty sad situations in rescue, but poor Susie has to be at the top of the list. We received an urgent plea for help for a sweet stray kitty in Washington Park who had been staying in an abandoned house. The house burned down last summer and she was living there despite it being nothing more than rubble. It's possible that was her home and her family left her behind; we just aren't sure what brought her to this place. To make matters worse, she had at least two litters of kittens during the time she had been staying there and some locals stole the kittens and were using them as bait for fighting dogs. A kind lady in the neighborhood heard about Susie and provided her with food/water while she searched for a rescue to take her. As soon as we heard about Susie's plight, we did not hesitate to rescue her immediately as we knew it was a life or death situation for her. Sadly, when she came to Heartland, she was full of milk but her kittens were no where to be found... absolutely heartbreaking. She was also quite thin and full of parasites. We spent several months just getting her healthy and putting some much-needed weight on her. She is now at a good weight and has a clean bill of health. She has beautiful green eyes and a shiny black coat - she reminds me of a miniature panther. Despite her ordeal, Susie is just as sweet as can be and has proven to be very forgiving towards humans. She loves to cuddle and be petted and will use her squeaky meow when she wants your attention. She is a total purr machine and makes biscuits as soon as you touch her. She is quite playful and enjoys chasing string and feather toys. She is on a special food to prevent crystals in her urine and it works very well for her. Fortunately, it can be purchased at most vet clinics and pet stores at a reasonable cost. She has very good manners and litter box habits and has never had an accident. While she loves people, she's not so fond of other animals and would do best as an only pet. Respectful kids should be just fine. Susie is spayed, microchipped, tested negative for FeLV/FIV and current on vaccinations - DOB 6/1/14 (tag # 10336). Susie has been through so much in her 2+ years and deserves a life of comfort, happiness and love - please consider giving this precious girl the forever home that she longs for.
