Jackson Hole’s jumping skills are quite impressive…and so cute!
Counter height kitchen chairs are intimidating to most small dogs when they consider jumping into their human’s lap, but not to Jackson! Just pat your lap and say, “Here!” and he’ll be there in one swift leap! This cute little jumping bean appears to be a Jack Russell Terrier mix about 2.5 years old. He’s house trained and walks fine on a leash, but roams free in his fosters’ home when they’re at work without chewing or messing with anything and so has not been crate trained. He’s very playful in nature, due to his high energy, and so isn’t so gentle when he’s excited. He jumps on anyone when they first arrive and while playing he’s all over the furniture. When he’s not playing he lays quietly on the furniture or interacts calmly with guests after the initial introduction. When his foster parents come home from work, Jackson runs around the yard for a while and then is ready to come in and snuggle or nap – and he LOVES to have his belly and ears rubbed! He also LOVES bones and stuffed toys or balls, and romping, and playing chase and wrestle-me with his foster sister. He mostly gets along with his foster brother, but because they’re both dominant males and get protective of their food, they eat separately to avoid conflict. Being the “little brother” Jackson will pick on him, but when his foster brother’s had enough he’ll give a growl and often a scuffle will ensue. Jackson is reactive to signs of aggression from another dog – he has not shown any toward people of any age or gender. He is interested in new dogs and is quick to show whether or not he likes them, and is reactive to dogs he doesn’t like or who show they don’t like him. This is usually the case with other male, dominant dogs. He is good with children but kitties are an unknown at this point.
Jackson has some anxiety and when he becomes nervous or he gets too excited, he fixates his energy on ceiling fans. He’ll bark and jump at them until he’s removed from the room and given a few minutes to calm down. He’s on a daily dose of medicine to help with his anxiety and his incidents have gotten fewer the longer he has been in his foster home. The more comfortable and familiar he becomes, the less his anxiety seems to be. The morning after Jackson’s first night in his foster home, his foster parents were exercising in the basement. He was waiting upstairs for them to finish, but when they looked for him he was nowhere to be found. After searching for him and calling his name, his foster mom went to the farthest room in the house and saw him coming out from behind a corner shelf! The noises from the basement had scared him and he had found somewhere far away to hide. This hide-away has become his safe place when he hears those noises – and now there’s a little blanket there where he sometimes falls asleep.
Jackson rides well in the car on short or long rides and knows “sit.” He would probably enjoy both basic obedience class and advanced classes – maybe agility or anything that requires super jumping skills! A fenced yard would be ideal so he can safely run off some of his super energy, but he’s not a fan of being outside. He’s a sweet boy looking for love! If he sounds like the buddy you’ve been looking for, fill out an application today! Jackson can’t wait to leap into your heart!
Medical Note:
Jackson's anxiety medication, Fluoxetine (prozac), 20mg once a day, costs about $5/month.
Adoption Fee: $425
