UPDATE 12/30/17:
Schroeder is an adorable little beagle (the size of a cat) with the cutest swagger. He came to us on 12/8/17, is approximately 7 years old, and weighs only 20 pounds. He's a very happy little dog and loves the attention he is receiving here. (See the attached photo of him at the door visiting with a cat.) He loves to hang out with cats. Angel wrote: “I did test Schroeder somewhat with cats. I was holding him and a volunteer was holding the cat Charli and they were both giving one another kisses on the face/nose and rubbing against each other. Schroeder was giving the happy whine and his tail was wagging nonstop." Jodie gave him a bath last week and he was very good in the bath. He could NOT be any cuter or any more polite and loving!
- CRATE TRAINED and doesn’t mind being in one (while he heals from Heartworm).
- HOUSE TRAINED but will “mark” places inside when he smells that another animal has peed there.
- GOOD WITH CATS, enjoys hanging out with them, and doesn’t seem to chase them when given an opportunity to. BUT he is very interested in their litter boxes and eating their food, etc., so if you have cats you will need to manage his interest in that regard.
- Very GOOD IN THE CAR—likes to travel.
- Very GOOD ON LEASH.
- Not destructive with soft things and/or furniture inside a home.
Because he is healing from Heartworm, he will require restricted activity for the next 90 days while being treated. He has to be kept calm and stay crated, except for calm leashed walks, but he doesn’t seem to mind. He keeps his crate very clean and his blankets even stay all smoothed out. He even “tells you” when he needs to go out to potty. He has several toys and he especially LOVES his soft little stuffed white lamb—he insists on carrying it with him when he goes outside to potty. He is very respectful of the soft blankets and toys in his crate too—he doesn’t seem destructive with anything.
Schroeder is currently featured on our Help To Heal Fund page. If you would like to donate to help with his medical expenses, please visit our website. If you can't adopt him, you might consider fostering him while he is being treated. We are looking for the best home for him so we are taking names and numbers of those interested in him. Please call our office at 434-263-7722 to learn more about this precious little soul.
