Adopt a Abyssinian / Savannah / Mixed (short coat)
Julian - Special Needs: FIV+ the Cat needs a home
.
Please read the entire description about Julian before submitting your application or contacting us, as he has special needs. Julian is a very handsome, tall and slender exotic looking cat. Because he was rescued from St. Landry Parish Animal Control we don't really know what his breed mix is, we are just guessing his breed by his body build, markings, size, and personality. He has large ears, very long legs, a very slender build, and beautiful & unusual coloring and markings. He is a very strong cat, and doesn't realize his own strength. He plays rough, and does give love bites. He needs to go to a home with NO children that live there, and NO children that ever visit there, because of his rough play and love bites. He is very healthy and happy. He was extremely terrified at animal control because he had been brought in after a traumatic experience with a dog and a trap. Because of this, he took a very long time to adjust to his foster home. So he will need a patient and understanding home that will give him time to adjust to his new home, as we do not know if the changes will cause him to be fearful again or not. Once he is comfortable and happy in his home, he will enjoy cuddling and sleeping by your side in the bed, as he currently does with his foster mom. He also needs a home with NO dogs because of his traumatic experience of being trapped in a cage for three days while a dog barked at him and played with the trap. We would prefer him to be adopted by someone experienced with exotic or difficult cats who will understand him better. No first time pet owners please. Julian does have anxiety and will not travel well. He is only available for adoption to locals. No out of state adoptions.
Julian is FIV+ so he will need a home that knows what this is, and is willing to provide him the extra veterinary care as it arises. Many FIV+ cats can live a very long and healthy life. However, it is an immune virus, so he more susceptible to catch illness from other cats. If Julian shows any signs of illness, he will need to see a vet right away, as a common cold can be deadly to an FIV+ cat. If you do not know what FIV is, please do your research before submitting an application on Julian. You will also want to talk with your veterinarian first, to see what their view is on FIV+ cats. While many vets understand that an FIV+ cat can live a very long and healthy life, some old school vets may recommend euthanizing him if he ever gets sick rather then trying to treat the illness to give him a chance to get better.
All of our cats are spayed or neutered, feline combo tested, up to date on vaccinations, on flea prevention, and have been treated for any intestinal or other parasites.
