Banjo came to us with a few other dogs from a large hoarding case here in MN- where 104 dogs were found at the same residence. Though all of the dogs from the case were very, very shy, Banjo seemed to take it much harder than the other dogs. He is guessed to be about 6 years old and living in those conditions for a long time makes change tough. At first Banjo would hide behind the other dogs in his foster home, and because he was too scared to come out of his kennel with other humans around, he would even just go to the bathroom in his kennel.
For the first month Banjo didn't seem to really make any progress at all and we didn't know if he could ever be happy. Then slowly we began to see little improvements here and there. We have slowly begun to see Banjo's personality come out. He seems to want to be a fun happy dog and we are trying to help him get there! He has learned what squeaky toys are, and tennis balls too. Banjo loves to give play bows to the other dogs in his foster home. He is learning to play and have fun like a dog should!
Banjo really enjoys the company of other dogs. We think he would do best in a home with another dog to help build his confidence. He has not been around kitties as far as we know, but we wouldn't anticipate him to have any issues with them since he seems to connect quicker with animals than with people.
Banjo is not big on the cuddles. He likes to keep his distance, especially with new people. In the morning Banjo gets excited to run up and give his foster mom some licks on her hand and then he'll retreat. He is learning how to show his affection. We don't know if he will ever like to be cuddled or enjoy pets, so for now his foster parents are teaching him to trust and letting him come to them when he's looking for attention. He is great in his kennel and loves having a safe place to call home base that he can go to. Now that he is in a foster home he is learning this whole potty training thing for the first time in his life. He does well when he is taken outside right after being in his crate. Walking on a leash is brand new to this guy so he'll need some patience and consistency. He loves to do his duty outside and then run really quickly inside to the safe zone. We don't know if Banjo will ever act like a "normal" dog but he deserves a happy family just like any other 4 legged friend. His forever family is out there, we know it :).
