Adopt a Shiba Inu (medium coat)
Koda the Dog needs a home
This cutie is Koda. Koda was purchased at a pet store in San Diego county and is a beautiful male sesame Shiba. He is just a year old and still acts a lot like a puppy. He can be a sweet boy, but needs a calm and patient owner(s) that can socialize him and show him how to relax and enjoy life. He turned a year old in January. His owners were no strangers to Shibas, but didn't have the energy to keep up with this pooch and were having a hard time with his anxiety. He was surrendered to us due to various concerns: hyperactivity, Pica disorder, self-destructive behavior and normal puppy things like chewing on things he shouldn't be, nipping, and pulling on leash. We are still evaluating him and his anxiety, and will update as we go, but so far, he isn't the worst case that we've seen!
He is current on vaccines (and has been known to have allergic reactions to them, so they must be administered with caution), microchipped and neutered. He rides well in the car (as long as he is crated) and does need to warm up to people. Koda has lived with another Shiba but does tend to get bossy with them; unknown how he is with cats or children. No young children under 10 years please. He does also have accidents in the home, so he will still need to monitored pretty closely and taken out every 3-4 hours so that no accidents occur
The Shiba-Inu is a primitive breed, and a living national monument in their native Japan. They are not very affectionate dogs, but are extremely loyal to their family/owner. Similar to the Japanese Akita because of their appearance and fierce loyalty, Shiba-Inus are a great breed to adopt because they are small-sized dogs that are smart and loyal. They are also known to be escape artists and door-bolters. Adopters who have previously owned or are accustomed to this breed will be considered. If interested in adopting him, please complete an application. Applications: http://www.savingshibasinc.org/adopt
