Adopt a Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat)
Oakley2 the Dog needs a home
Oakley is a 2-year old housebroken and crate trained pit bull mix weighting 46 pounds. Not sure what he is mixed with, but his ears are almost constantly straight up like a Carolina's (even when asleep!) and rarely folded back like many pit bulls' ears are.
I don't know his full story, but it started out kinda sadly. He was picked up by a local animal control, who found him with a rope embedded in the skin around his neck. The rope was tied with a knot so likely either someone never loosened it as he grew or he broke free and lived as a stray while he grew--or maybe a combination of both. His back legs are also a little weak, so it's also possible that not only was his rope too tight, but his prior living quarters may have been, as well. Either way, once he was at the shelter, the Humane Society was nice enough to perform the surgery required to remove the rope. After surgery, he went back to the shelter, but the shelter is small and therefore has a fairly high rate of animals that get euthanized due to overcrowding. For whatever reason, Oakley wasn't getting much attention from visitors and therefore his chances weren't looking good. It didn't seem fair that his "second chance" at life was in jeopardy, so Cody's rescued him in order that he could finish healing and get some much needed love and rest.
I do not know yet how does around other pets, people, or kids, but he took to me right away and is super sweet. He loves sleeping on the couch but probably needs an owner who can get him exercised at least a little while each day. He likes to chew, so nylabones and plush toys (for him to rip apart!) should always be readily available to him so that he doesn't start scavenging for something of yours to chew! I am admittedly not the best at teaching commands but think he will be easily trainable. He's more of a lover than a fighter and doesn't even bark when the doorbell rings. The only time I've seen him bark was at a possum that was sitting just outside my glass patio door.
Oakley is neutered and heartworm negative.
