Medical history-Healthy. 

Ideal home- Bodhi would do best in a quiet low stress all adult home. A dog walker is needed if working full time. Bodhi is snappy at men so keep this in mind when applying.

Meet Bodhi! This little guy only weighs 10 pounds and is house trained.  Sweet Bodhi is a recent arrival. He is very playful and loves to jump on your lap for cuddles.(female foster) Bodhi gets along with other dogs but will do best in a home without other dogs or where the other dog does not try to play with him. While Bodhi is a loving little guy, he does show signs of stress in response to certain triggers. For example, Bodhi will bark and snap at men he doesn’t know.  He will need positive reinforcement training to help reduce his fear of strangers. And even with training, Bodhi’s fear of men could take years to overcome. CHR will provide you with the FREE services of a canine behavioral counselor to help with this issue. For the reasons discussed above, CHR is asking for an applicant who has raised a dog before since working with a fearful dog requires prior experience. 

CHR is also requiring that the home Bodhi goes to is an all-adult low-traffic home where his fear triggers will be reduced (we describe this as a “Zen” atmosphere—see below.)

CHR will be taking Bodhi to a Canine Behaviorist to ensure we fully understand the behavioral needs of little Bodhi. 

Why do some dogs only snap or bark at men only?

Some timid dogs are often afraid of men.  Men exhibit a larger physical size and a different tone of voice than women.  

Because of this, we have to be very detailed and careful on how we proceed with his placement in a new home. If he is placed in a home that does not follow a detailed training plan, Bodhi’s fear reactivety can worsen.   

What is a "Zen" atmosphere? ?

1.      A home with only adults, no young children. We like children but in certain cases as in the case of Bodhi, who is stressed from recent and possibly past mental trauma, a home without children is the safest way to ensure that no incidents of nipping or biting occur. 

  2.      A quiet neighborhood with low foot traffic where you can walk Bodhi   Example: an apartment building with narrow hallways and lots of people walking by is the opposite of low foot traffic.
