Hound / Catahoula Leopard Dog / Mixed (short coat) Dog

Lady Byrd the Dog needs a home

I was really scared when I found my new friends. They were so nice to me. There was dogs & cats to play with! And a warm bed & food that I didn't have to fight for. No one here kicks or hits me. I'm a really smart girl, I like to learn new things. The other day we went to this place where they have all kinds of things for animals. I was a little afraid but I'm brave. I'm scared of loud noises.  My friends at home have given me lots of courage & are showing me life's pretty darn fun.

I know come, sit, wait, off & of course NO! lol I have a hard time with them when I'm excited, which is a lot. I really like to run, fast, fast! And swimming is a favorite thing of mine. My Momma doesn't like it when I cross the creek so she doesn't let me get in there much. There's other dogs over there that I need to see! She says I can see them from home, but I like to be up close & personal. I haven't met a dog I haven't liked.

Riding in a car is another thing I never did before. Sticking my nose out when we're going down the street is fun too, but I will curl up & take a nap most times. I get to go to work with my Momma. All her clients say I'm beautiful. Maybe you'll think so too & want me to be a part of your family. I could possibly be a little rough with small children, but bigger kids get it, so I'm ok with them.  Rough housing is the best. My new friends & I roll around in the dirt. I like that.

I love my bed & my chew bones I get in there. The bones sure help to pass the time when the humans leave. I haven't learned all the do's & don'ts of being inside so I stay in a crate when they leave. I don't mind tho, having a warm bed with blankies are such a wonderful thing. I'm grateful to have them. I love to lay next to you on the couch or even in your bed. I don't get to do that very often & it sure is a treat when I do. Cuddling in a big ol' bed is spectacular.

I had to fight on the streets for my food, so I can be a protective of it. I heard them say that's a common thing for us dogs. All my sisters & brother get tethered when it's dinner time. It's just the best thing to do when it comes to food. Treats are REALLY good, I think they're even more favorite than the food! And peanut butter, wow! I'll do just about anything for the bone with peanut butter in it. I'm almost as tall as Momma when I stand on 2 legs. I can see all the way to the back of the counters. Sometimes she leaves food up there. She doesn't like it when I eat it. Cain't help it!!!

I would love to find my forever human(s) so I can really relax. I'm doing pretty good on a leash, if I could just concentrate & quit being distracted by all the sites & smells.  I think if I could run on a regular basis, my concentration would improve. This is all so new to me. I used to be able to run at will, no one cared what I did. I got to run & chase all kinds of critters. I like chasing critters.I'm a hound dog so my nose is to the ground. I could probably help you with that if you like doing that sort of thing.

I'm learning to go outside when I have to potty. Being that I've never lived inside before, I'm doing my best. I'm still not sure how to let these humans know I need to go out, so I have had a few accidents. I promise I will do my best to be a good girl & keep learning my potty manners. I'm 2-3 years old, so it's going to take a little time & patience with me to help me learn so many new things. I'm a smart girl, I'll have it down in no time.

  **Note**

Byrd is a very special girl. She is sweet beyond words. A fence would be the best for her right now.  I'm working on that. She really needs to run on a regular basis. She's beautiful when she runs. I think she would be a great camping/hiking companion. I wouldn't let her off lead just yet, but I think once she's bonded with you & calms down, she will stick with you.  We walk daily on a leash.  She's been such an easy girl to bring into my pack. She would be fine being the only dog. She's learning how to be in a pack. She can be a little skittish & bribing her with treats is the best way to get her to cooperate. Training her needs to be one on one, with no other animals around. She's very interested in other dogs & will lose concentration.  Seems her previous life she was in charge! lol

Thanks for adopting & I hope your find the perfect dog for you. If you ever have questions or concerns, I will do my best to help.  A home check may be required ..
