Reese is a 5-year-old Dalmatian mix male with a big personality. He came to us from a local county dog shelter as a heartworm positive stray. He successfully completed heartworm treatment and is now heartworm free! Heartworm disease isn’t the only hardship sweet Reese has overcome. Reese likely had a rough life before coming to Canine Lifeline to find a forever home. We can only assume that he spent a lot of time on the end of a chain. This often leads a dog to bark incessantly out of frustration and boredom. Someone had our poor boy debarked and probably stuck him back out on a chain until he got loose and ended up in the shelter. Now he sounds much like a sea lion when he vocalizes.

Despite his rough start, Reese is a very sweet dog. He has been very well behaved in the house. He has not gotten into anything that is not his. He did not get up on any furniture until invited, but now that he has, he has his special spot on his blanket on the couch. This is where he prefers to sleep at night as well. He is house trained. However, he does not do well for long work days without having accidents. He would do best in a home where someone is home most of the time.

Reese also has a lot of energy until he gets his walk/run. After a brisk walk/jog of a few miles, he settles down nicely for the rest of the day/evening. He would make someone a fantastic jogging partner, but at the least needs someone ready to walk or hike daily. While Reese pulls when leashed on a collar, he does very well on a harness. He loves to play with other dogs and has gotten along well with all dogs he's met at the park, even a few who have gotten a little snarky with him. He just wants to be everyone's friend and would benefit from a playful canine buddy in his new home.

Reese is a talented escape artist who is capable of jumping a 4-foot fence. He also appears to have a strong prey instinct when it comes to squirrels and bunnies. We would love to see him find a home with a privacy fence where he could run and play freely. Reese also has a sensitive stomach. After some pretty bad tummy issues this fall and changing food multiple times, he is doing very well on Whole Hearted grain free easy digestion potato and egg formula as well as grain free treats. He has put a little meat on his bones and now weighs about 55 pounds. Reese is silly and inquisitive and loves to play tug and fetch. He rides well in the car on the way to the park and is definitely ready to go off on adventures with a very lucky new family.

His adoption fee is $200. He’s neutered, heartworm negative and on monthly preventative, up to date on vaccinations, wormed, on flea preventative, and microchipped. As part of the adoption process, all adopters must commit to a two-week adjustment period to make sure it’s a great match before the adoption is finalized. Please email [email protected] if you’re interested in Reese. An approved application is required before we set up meets with any of our dogs. All of our dogs come to us from county dog pounds so we have no history on them. We also have no foster homes with young children so aren’t comfortable placing any of them in a home with children less than 7 years of age. We try to respond to inquiries within 48 hours so if you haven’t heard from us within that time frame, please check your junkmail or spam folder to make sure our reply hasn’t landed in there.
