Adopt a Rat Terrier (short coat)
Emily May (NC) the Dog needs a home
What does a rescued Rat Terrier do after she has spent most of her estimated 15 years imprisoned in a puppy mill, producing litter after litter of babies? If she's a plucky little survivor named Emily May, she spins in circles of joy! It's no accident that one of Em's photos looks like a butterfly wriggling out of its cocoon because this 11-lb. sweetheart is getting ready to spread her wings and live life at last! Thanks to the legendary lifespan of the Rat Terrier and Emily May's overall good health, she likely has more than a few wonderful years ahead of her. She can't wait for her adopter to find her so that they can embark on this journey together. Emily May is very shy at first, a result of having been neglected in the puppy mill, but her inherently sweet nature helps her warm up fairly quickly. She is playful and active, given her age, and has that aforementioned delightful habit of showing she's happy by spinning round and round! Her favorite pursuits involve being petted, giving kisses, snuggling in your lap, and luxuriating in the warmth of her dog bed strategically placed to capture the sun's rays. Emily May gets along well with cats and other small dogs, but she should not be around large dogs due to her small size. She would love her home to be calm and her people to be there most of the time. Emily May is now crate trained and is making great progress in her house-training. She does quite well with frequent, regular opportunities to go outside. Although she has lost all her teeth (a result of lack of care in the puppy mill), she has no problem dining on kibble softened with warm water and topped with a small amount of canned food. Emily May is such a sweet dog, an inspiring example of overcoming a sad past. Be inspired and help this beautiful little dog experience the life she so richly deserves.
