Adopt a Shih Tzu (medium coat)
Alex Shih Tzu PA the Dog needs a home
UPDATE: Hey there partner! My name is Alex, and my foster mom calls me Cowboy Alex. I was found all by myself in a park in the Big Apple. Can you imagine a 2 year old out on the streets of New York City all alone? I was sporting the Bob Marley look when I was found and taken to the shelter where they gave me a haircut. The shelter listed me as a Shih Tzu mix but my foster mom seems to think I have some Chihuahua and possibly Dachsund in me. I am a low rider with a long body. My fur is growing out now as you can see in my recent pictures.
I am still a diamond in the ruff. I am presently with my foster mom in Pennsylvania. She has been working with me on things like potty training on wee wee pads and getting along with other small dogs my size. I am also working on leash manners because I never had a collar or leash before. I do not know sit or stay yet, but we keep working towards that. I would do well in a quiet home alone or with another dog after slow introductions, and need to be in a home with no children. I seem to prefer a woman vs. a man. I seem to be crate trained as I do spend quiet time in my crate at my foster moms. I am very food/treat motivated and listen quite well when my foster mom brings me my “nums”. I take treats gently from your hand. I do not have interest in toys or balls, and my foster mom thinks I had no puppyhood to learn those, but maybe someday I will learn to play with toys. I am hoping to find my forever home soon so I can continue to blossom with my training. Could that be with you? I sure hope so!
2y 14lb Alex is a small white dog who was found alone in the park. He allowed finder to walk him but when she tried to pick him up to place into a car he snapped at her hand. Alex came into the shelter and did not do much besides sniff around during intake. He was calm when being scanned but did not want to walk on leash with counselor and needed to be carried which he was fine with. He allowed counselor to collar him with no problem. He has been shaved down, these are before and after fotos. He is in rehab in PA as of Aug 15th and we will be looking for an understanding home for him to decompress in forever very soon. He will be avail for adoption so please submit an application if you think he is the project you wish to help.

Please go to our site
http://zanisfurryfriends.org fill out an application and return to
[email protected] Many of us (cats/dogs) will be on display on on Sundays and sometimes on Saturdays--please ask by writing us at
[email protected] and following us on FB. If you are seriously interested in adopting one of us in particular, please fill out an application by Friday so that we can be sure to be there. Otherwise we decide based on other variables. Usually we are in our foster homes so this is a bit more stressful and a slightly artificial environment but we do want to be seen and find our furever homes too.
Please consider providing a home for more than one dog, especially if you are considering adopting a puppy. Dogs are pack animals and very much enjoy as well as need other dog company to learn to play, socialize and be good companion animals to people. The upside to this is that you won't feel as guilty leaving them alone and you get twice the love. Please come! And if you can't adopt, maybe you can foster or volunteer, and you can always donate!
