Adopt a Pit Bull Terrier / Terrier / Mixed

Sweet Stella has made TREMENDOUS progress since going to her foster home. She came into the shelter completely feral and had been living in the woods her entire life. This poor baby had never been handled by humans or had any positive interactions with them. She loves toys and playing fetch! She also LOVES other dogs and will follow them around everywhere they go. They give her a sense of security! She would do best in a home with at least another dog who will tolerate her being it's shadow. It will help build her confidence. She will now give her foster mom kisses and will snuggle next to her on the couch! However, she is still terrified of strangers and leery of the males in her foster home. She doesn't like hats or hoods and will bark and retreat to her crate. She has never snapped at anyone, but her foster mom has never put her in a situation where that would be her only option. She just needs space to calm down when she gets scared. Due to this, she cannot go into a home with younger children. It will likely take months for her to warm up to a new adopter. She is very treat motivated! She needs someone who will be pateint and understanding of her needs. She also needs a home that is quiet and doesn't get many visitors. The adopter needs to understand that if they get visitors, it's best to just crate her in a quiet room by herself and not try to force her to be social. Someone who has time to work with her and continue to show her that humans are not scary. She is crate trained and LOVES her crate. That is her safe spot. She is trained to use puppy pads because she gets nervous going outside unless it's with one of her foster doggy siblings. Stella must go to a home with a secure fenced in yard. She has never been on leash and just recently got a collar on. Progress is slow, but is happening! She is a bit nervous around new dogs so she will need an adjustment period to get comfortable with the new dogs and people in the home. Once she does get comfortable, she really opens up and is a funny, spunky little girl! If you are willing to put in the work, Stella is well worth the effort!! She is a little under a year old and approximately 40lbs
