Our sweet cuddlebug Gerry is in need of a forever home.

Gerry is named for a benefactor who recently left us an unexpected and much appreciated donation. Gerry comes to us from our friends at the Marion County shelter. He was profoundly neglected, abandoned, and is heartworm positive. We do not even know if he is truly a golden, but he needed our help and we were happy to step up.

When he arrived, his skin looked as if it had been through a meat grinder. He had significant bacterial and yeast infections in his ears, he was missing hair over his entire body, his skin was thickened and had numerous skin tags/masses over his entire body. Gerry also had severe dental disease, resulting in the need to remove over a dozen diseased teeth. Can you imagine the pain he was in? Somehow, Gerry is as sweet as can be, and has already begun healing.

Gerry is super sweet and loves to snuggle. He has nice manners and is excellent with other dogs, but cannot be in a home with cats. He does require a little extra care as he continues his recovery, but he is otherwise easy and low maintenance. All GRRSWF dogs have undergone a full examination by a veterinarian, and any health concerns have been addressed. PLEASE NOTE: We serve Southwest Florida from Naples to Ocala. If you live OUTSIDE of our service area and are interested in adopting one of our dogs, please note that we will only consider an application for senior dogs (over the age of 8) or dogs with special needs (usually medication).  BEFORE submitting your application, send an email to [email protected] to request an exception to our service area. If that approval is given, you will be asked to complete an application, clearly stating on it that you are interested in a special needs or senior dog.  However, please be aware that, unfortunately, there are some locations we simply cannot cover because we do not have sufficient representation in those areas to perform the required home visits prior to the adoption, or follow-up visits afterward. If that is the case, we will be happy to refer you to a local rescue or shelter.
