Journey the Dog needs a home
Journey is a gentle and shy 22# blue merle Sheltie. She has recently been spayed and had a dental cleaning and polishing. She lost three teeth with one of them being a triple rooted carnasial tooth that was rotted into her sinus cavity. Her physical condition is fairly good for a dog that came from a commercial breeding facility. But she does not believe in the goodness of mankind. When we reach for her to slip a leash on, she flattens to the ground and looks up with an expression of "Please don't hit me." It is what makes my blood boil!
Journey needs a very specific kind of forever home. Adults only. (Please don't apply and tell us why your youngster is special. We believe you but Journey would be terrified.) She needs to have folks that she can depend on, preferably someone home most of every day. She will bond with one human and when she trusts that person completely, she will learn that other folks are nice too. I am sure that you have heard of people who wear both a belt and suspenders to hold their pants up securely. Journey probably needs a harness and a leash when she is outside of a fenced yard for safety's sake. And we will never approve a placement for a puppy mill survivor without an escape proof yard. That is why we do home visits.
We put the needs of the dogs ahead of those of the potential adopters. Please don't take that out of context. Many of our adopters over 35 years would consider us "family," we are proud to say. But the well-being of each dog is why we keep doing what we do....until they all have a home.
