Adopt a Boxer / Mixed (short coat)
Gracie May the Dog needs a home
Gracie May is a gorgeous Boxer mix who is very affectionate and always greets her pack members with heavy doses of love, enthusiasm, and wiggle butt. She’s an active dog who loves to play ball and go for long walks where she can sniff and roam, and does an adorable head tilt when she discovers something new that will melt your heart.
She is house trained, crate trained, and knows basic commands (sit, stay, lay down and “watch me”). She walks very nicely on leash and will sit if you pull up on her collar. While she is wary of dogs that aren’t members of her pack, she is typically indifferent to dogs that just walk by, and gets along great with other dog in her home. She’s currently living with her pup sibling, Jax, and they became fast friends when she joined the family. She would do well as an only dog, or with another calm/balanced dog in the home.
Gracie will do best in a home with structure, and an owner who has some large dog experience. She can be a little possessive of furniture, so it is important to establish her place on the floor early on and to not let her “own” any chairs or couches. She is great with guests who are friendly towards her, but will mistrust people who don’t want to engage her. She would do best in a home with owners who can provide consistent leadership and exercise, and who are comfortable being assertive pack leaders so that Gracie knows she can relax and just be a follower.
FOSTER UPDATE - 12/6/17
Gracie has been working hard on her training, and her foster parents report that she is excellent on a leash now. She completely ignores other dogs on walks even when they are barking and being aggressive towards her. She's also improved greeting visitors in the home, and is responding well to boundaries.
