Meet Shrek
Shrek comes to ABR from a shelter in NJ where he was taken after being picked up as a stray. He was emaciated and his feet showed that he'd been on the streets for quite a while. He is still putting on weight and his feet have healed nicely. Shrek is a very loving boy. He's a big uncoordinated goof! His noises are just hysterical! He grumbles almost all the times! How could you not fall in love with this boy. He's been so friendly to everyone he's met. So trusting. He came to his foster home unfamiliar with typical household items like a TV, dishwasher, vacuum, or even the phone. He's interested by everything and every noise. Maybe he's never lived inside. We don't know. He is working on learning commands. He quickly learned "in" and "sit". We are moving on to "down" and "stay". Shrek rocked the house breaking training. He does great in his crate – not one accident. Shrek probably never walked on a leash before coming to ABR so we are working on that. He's not unlike many rescue's adopted, he just needs basic command training.
Shrek's history is unknown to us. He will NOT be adopted to a home with cats or children. At times, he is still mouthy when seeking attention. While we are making progress already with him, children do not understand how to deal with these situations and can be hurt. We will NOT consider applications where there are children in the home.
Shrek is a great dog! He's got such potential! He's really great with his foster dog friends, he's so friendly and loving to all humans he's met, he's learning pretty quickly, he's a heartbreaker with his endearing ways!
