From the Foster:

Hello everyone, my name is Cooper and I am just about as special as they come!  First to address the obvious, I do have a deformity called Short Spine Syndrome, but that's not the only reason I'm special. I'm a pretty original guy, looking for the perfect home, I know I won't fit into everybody's lifestyle, but that's ok I'm just looking for that one perfect family to stay with forever!

I am just about the happiest guy on the block, nothing brings me down, even if I'm not feeling well - I'm always happy!  I love my dog brothers and sisters and would need to have a puppy friend to play and wrestle with.  I have been around cats, and I'm a little too interested, if you know what I mean!  I am a little selective about meeting certain dogs, because I do get nervous that they are going to pick on me, I have been picked on quite a bit by other dogs because they don't get the way I look, so I am slow to warm up.  But once I'm comfortable, I trust 100%!  People on the other hand... there's not a human I don't love, right away adult or child. I want to love everyone!

In my home I am a perfect gentleman, totally potty trained and don't need to be crated.  If I have a stuffy to chew on and a friend to hang out with, I am a-ok.  I will also happily sleep on your bed, or on my bed on the floor, whatever works for you, works for me.  My foster mom did a DNA test on me and learned I am an American Foxhound/Beagle, and boy does my howl stay true to my breed!  I probably would annoy your neighbors pretty quickly if you have shared walls.  Outside, my nose runs the show, I am no good at recall and I won't come inside until all the smells have been sniffed!  Because of this, I do need a fenced in yard, foster mom tried without one and didn't like chasing me down the field!

Into the nitty gritty of my deformity, I wish I could do everything other dogs can, but I am learning I can't.  I can't move my neck so getting up off the ground can be tricky, I hurt myself pretty badly once and I'm training on how to stay call and get myself up.  I also have to use my toes/nails to get up - so if your prized possession is your hardwood floors, I probably won't make you too happy.

I may have some medical expenses in my future and will need to have someone who can help me with that, Short Spine Syndrome is only present in about 20 dogs world-wide, so even though my rescue family would do anything for me, they can't really tell you what to expect medically, because, nobody knows.  I do have a deformed body, which means I have to stay on my strict prescription diet, and supplements - this helps keep everything clean and healthy, believe me this is necessary!  I also learned that long walks hurt my feetsies really really badly, I want to everything my fellow dog friends can, but I need someone to make sure I don't over do it, and can work with me to find solutions to crazy issues.

I know this sounds like a lot, but really I just want to be a loving member of your family forever, I promise to bring smiles and happiness to your home.  I know I am looking for a 1 in a million home, but I'm hoping you find me!
