Hello!  My name is Nicky, and I'm a small, spayed, female lap cat, around 6 years old, litter trained, super friendly, and very talkative.  I'm a smoky tortoiseshell, about 8-9 pounds, with short hair.  My left ear is clipped from a TNR* program, but no one knows why, because I was obviously someone's kitty; I am not afraid of people at all.  I really am a sweetheart and I now live with my foster family.  I've had a sad life for the past several years, and I now have FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus**).  I've lost some teeth because of the FIV, but I have no trouble with dry foods, and I love dry kitty treats.  I may take a few days to get used to a new home and new people, but I learn well, even if I am feisty.  I have all of my claws, and I use them to the best of my advantage when I'm being held; I love to knead whoever is holding me, but I'm afraid of other kitties and I will take a while to not be aggressive towards any new house mates.  If there are doggies around, I'll let them know that I'm the new boss in town.

I remember being adopted by people who kept me partially indoors and partially outdoors.  Sometime this past fall, my people moved, and they left me behind.  An older lady up the street from where I lived said that she wanted to keep me, even though my foster dad insisted that she be certain that she was going to permanently keep me if she kept me, at all.  Now, the older lady is moving to Minnesota.  She said that she can't take me with her, but I don't know why.  So now, I'm with my foster dad.

I’ve always answered to my foster dad.  Whenever I saw him outside, I would trot down the street to him, meowing to him, to rub against his pants and to be held by him.  I’m living in his house now, in a big kitty Play Pen, about 3 feet away from him.  I tell him whenever I wake up.  I tell him whenever I want to be held.  I tell him whenever it’s time to eat.  I tell him whenever he is eating something that I want to share.  And I tell him that I’m still not happy with those other three kitties that live here, that he’s staff to, also.  I don’t like one of them, especially, who might be my sister, so I can’t run around my foster dad’s home.  I would be much happier in a furever home where I can run around, and climb into laps whenever I want to.

*TNR: Trap, neuter, and release of feral cats.  Nicky is not feral.

**FIV is found in all cats, worldwide, at around 3%.  FIV cannot be transmitted to people; it is a feline-only virus.  It is transmitted by bites and by mating.  Nicky was spayed some time ago, so the only thing to watch is her fear of other cats.  The most common problems that domestic, fully indoor, FIV+ cats have are loss of teeth and skin problems.  She must be kept indoors for her own health and safety, and will gladly make herself at home on her people’s bed and laps.
