Adopt a Black and Tan Coonhound / Mixed (short coat)
Chester the Dog needs a home
If you love hounds, you’ll love CHESTER. This 1-year-old black and tan coonhound mix loves to run and sniff around the exercise areas here at Save the Strays. But, like most hounds, he’s quite happy lounging indoors, as well. Also like most hounds, he’s food-driven. Show him a treat and he’ll try his best to do what you want, once he understands what that is. He learned to sit in 5 minutes using treats. That’s also how we trained him to kennel up in his crate when he comes inside. He’s pretty smart, so if you get a bag of treats and devote an afternoon, you can probably teach him most of the basic commands. Chester weighs 58 lbs. and is fairly active, so he needs room to run. A fenced yard would be best, but he can be walked on leash (needs a little work). Because of his size and enthusiasm, we think he would be best with adults only or a family with older, bigger children so he doesn’t knock them down when he greets them. As for other dogs, he seems to prefer females, although a male that doesn't act aggressive or challenge him may be okay. Apply for Chester online at www.savethestrays.org or email [email protected] for our application. Adoption fee $225.
