Adopt a Tabby / Domestic Short Hair / Mixed (short coat)
Nike the Cat needs a home
My sisters, brother and I wound up in the shelter, about 7 weeks old, and were really scared of humans. Our mom must have been a street cat, and decided to have us in somebody’s yard. When we were old enough to be weaned and eat on our own, “Whoosh!” we were caught up and taken to the shelter. Very scary! Yet in truth, that was our lucky day. PZF took the four of us from the shelter to get used to humans while we grew large enough to be fixed and find a home. We were too shy and “hidey” for a foster home, so we got the “immersion treatment” at PZF. So many volunteers held us daily, we got the idea pretty fast that humans are OK creatures!
My sisters and brother found homes, but I had a harder time getting brave. I loved every cat and kitten I met, and always was sweet and playful when people wanted to love me. I accepted handling reluctantly, and without enjoyment but given time I would relax. Nobody wanted to adopt a shy kitty, no matter how gentle I was. Then I had a miracle! The couple that adopted one of my sisters took me to their home to foster me and see what would happen. Within a week, I was coming when they called (at least 75% of the time), sleeping in their bed, and having a lot of fun with the other cats in their home. My big test was when the son and his family came to stay for a few days. I did not hide, came to greet them, and was a “…brave boy with their boys 2 and 3 years old.”
I will stay with them as fosters until someone wants to adopt a beautiful loving cat to come live with them and their other cat(s). I have no bad habits, am very healthy, and finally ready to give people affection willingly. I hope you will try me out in your home.
