I'm Callie and my foster mom says the above are the best describing words for my personality. She also says I am a total snuggle bug. I love to sleep in the bed and have my head right on you.
My days are structured, I know exactly what the routine is and it provides me a sense of security. Sometimes I’m stubborn about going outside and foster mom has to carry me to the door. I would prefer not to be kenneled and have to be guided to the kennel. I am crate trained in 4-5 hour intervals as well as potty trained.
I am protective of the house when I see a passing pedestrian, car or hear unfamiliar noises outside. Foster mom says that I am an alert barker and I would do best without shared walls for this reason. I have also regularly bark at the neighbor dogs because I want to meet them and they are a yard or two away.
I would prefer a fenced yard to get my zoomies out when needed. I don’t love to walk on a leash as new sounds and experiences are challenging. A secure yard gives me an opportunity to exercise and feel safe, making it the best fit.
I currently live with 2 adults, 2 dogs (large young labs, M and F - around 1y) as well as a little human (6y). The resident dogs sure love to play and I do too! Sometimes we play a bit rough and make a lot of noise. Foster mom is sure to monitor and give us breaks if it has escalated too much. I am still learning boundaries in play as well as how to properly signal that I am done playing.
My little human is the best. I love to be in his lap getting scratches and pets. I share kisses and my tail wags fast because he makes me feel loved. He's very respectful and gentle. I wouldn’t mind a little human who can treat me the same in my forever home.
I would prefer a home with a companion dog friend who is not dominant and is confident. It would be best if they were around my size or slightly larger. You see, I have learned so much from my resident friends. I also voice that I am sad when they are not around.
I can be reactive to a growl or unkind gesture from other dogs both on and off leash. It is likely that I had to defend myself as a stray and I have some old habits I am working on. I have made progress and my foster mom is proud of me. I will need a human willing to continue to work on this as well as provide close supervision when I am with another dog.
I'm looking for a forever home that will give me love, guidance, comfort and structure. Maybe you have a doggie bed with my name on it?
