Adopt a American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat)

Sweetie is a 10 year old female pitbull who shares the same characteristics as her name. Sweetie spent all of her life as a neglected backyard dog. Her original family did not even name her until she was 9 years old!

She had a particularly ruff (pun intended) start to life. She was acquired as a puppy by her original family for the sole purpose of breeding. Since she was so painfully shy, she never left her dog house and never interacted with the male pitbulls in the backyard. Eventually the family gave up their hopes on breeding Sweetie and, subsequently, gave up hope on Sweetie. She had no human interaction (other than feedings) for the remainder of the time in the backyard. At some point in time, the family decided to get another dog and at the ripe old age of 10, Sweetie gave birth to her first litter of pups. The family decided that having 5 puppies and two adult dogs was too much to handle so they decided to take Sweetie to the animal shelter.

Her current foster mom was made aware of the situation through friends and decided to intervene. Sweetie is great with other dogs (male and female, big dogs & small dogs) and has taken well to indoor living. She is crate trained, house trained, and leash trained. Sweetie is excellent with children and has not been cat tested. Sweetie does not have any noted prey drive. She has learned "sit" and "stay" within the short period of time she has been in her foster home. She is not a high energy dog but enjoys walks and playing outside. Sweetie is the perfect companion for anyone interested in giving this senior dog a second chance.

The adoption fee for all of our dogs is $250.00, which includes their vaccinations and spay/neuter.

Sweetie is participating in the DFW Rescue Me Guest Dog Program, so ongoing care and custody are provided by their foster, not by DFWRM.
