Cheadle the Dog needs a home

Please contact Debbie ([email protected]) for more information about this pet.

Dog:Cheadle
Age:6
Weight: 59
Location: Baltimore, MD
Good with other dogs?: In his original home, Cheadle lived with a female malti-poo. In foster care, Cheadle's exposure to other dogs is limited. He meets dogs well and passes them on walks very well.
Good with cats? unknown, will not be adopted to a home with a cat
Good with children? will not be adopted to a home with children
Activity Preference: Low maintenance overall but needs quality outside time.
IQ: Average
Nicknames: Cheese Puff, Nubbin' Butt

Cheadle's favorite things: Peanut butter kong bones! Car rides

Cheadle is good at: meeting people, staying in a crate, behaving in the house, going for car rides
Ideal home: Prefer a home with a fence so he can get some running in, a family that has lots of opportunities to spend time with him and won't leave him alone too much, one that realizes what a gem they have in Cheadle.
Training Needs: Cheadle can get possessive of items. He won't want to give up certain things and you need to trade it for a treat. He will growl at people if they try to take something that he currently likes. He gives all the signs you'd expect but he could use someone to continue working with him on breaking this resource guarding. This is also something to be aware of if living with another dog. Original owner reports Cheadle has never bitten anyone or another dog.

When he gets over-stimulated he tries to mount you. He quickly stops when corrected. We expect this to settle down as he settles into his foster home.

Health issues: He has cherry eye in one eye and is awaiting surgery

Meet Cheadle

Cheadle is an adorable, little nugget of an English Bulldog. He's a little bit goof, a lot of lazy, a smidge of spunky, and a world of personality.

He was surrendered by his family because they didn't have much time for him. His original owner said Cheadle is such an amazing dog that he deserves more than they are giving him. We agree.

Cheadle is the strong, silent type who likes to look longingly at you while getting affection. He's also happy to take a toy and hang out in his crate. His crate is his castle. Anyone who adopts him must agree to let him have access to a crate. No exceptions. This is his haven and he deserves to keep it that way. If you don't believe in crating a dog, Cheadle is not the dog for you.

He likes a good balance between "me time" and time with his people. He's happy to be by your side whether you're going on an adventure or hanging out reading a book. He doesn't seem used to sitting up on the couch/bed and can get a little excited and frisky then but we think he can work through that (if you're looking for a couch dog).

Cheadle lived with another, smaller, female dog and did really well with her but we don't know how he'll be with males or larger dogs. Family would need to commit to slow introductions in the house. He has done well at meeting other dogs while on leash, in the house and out in public.

As with all bullies, he will do great with a calm person who is willing to set boundaries. He's so cute that it'd be easy to let him get his way with you. Really, he mostly wants to please but his world is a little rocked right now having lost his family and he needs stability and structure to see him through. It'd be great if his future family has experience beyond basic puppy training.

In the relatively short time we've had Cheadle, there's no mistaking he is a special dog. He's not just all good, bully looks. He's a charmer. He's good natured. He's a great companion. If you read all this and know that you can give him what is needed, we hope you apply to become his forever family.
