Pongo: Lee Arrendale State Prison Program the Dog needs a home
Pongo “magically” showed up in the parking lot of the shelter one day.
He was running around panicked, trying to climb into the parked vehicles. He was wearing a collar with no tags and had no microchip. He immediately came running up to me when I pulled up, and jumped in the truck.
Pongo is a ball of energy and loves to play! He gets “the zoomies” out in the play yard chasing tennis balls and toys!
Pongo has waited over two months for someone to stop by this kennel and say “I want to take him home”, but with so many dogs here, it’s easy for a pooch like Pongo to get overlooked!
I am currently participating in a training program at Lee Arrendale State Prison to help make me the perfect family member! I'm available for adoption at any time! Saving me lets another shelter dog come into the program too! Adopting me saves TWO lives!
Since I am in the prison, please contact the shelter so that it can be arranged for you to meet me! I'm not staying at the animal shelter right now, so the staff needs to come "bail me out" to meet you!
The mission or Forever Friends is to save dogs from being euthanized at the Habersham County Animal Care and Control Shelter while providing inmates with the training to teach basic dog obedience and to learn animal care and grooming skills.
Through this program, both inmates and dogs are rehabilitated, providing valuable support to our local community. The dogs are trained in basic obedience skills, are crate trained and house broken so that they are more easily adopted. The women in the program are learning valuable social and vocational skills that will help them become more productive members of their communities upon release, this reducing recidivism.
