"This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine, shine shine!" Well, my name is Shine. And you NEED me. Chances are, you probably don’t know how many times a day you’re near certain death. But I do. And y’all could use some guidance. The thing is, people look at me and they think that because I’m missing my front appendage, I have a bunch of NEEDS. Man, I don’t have needs except for a place to call home, maybe some toys and a nice tall, cool drink at the end of a long day of protecting you! Yeah. I hear the people that pass me by. Some of them call me a “tripod.” Well I’m here to tell you that I’m no TRY-pod. I’m a five year-old Aussie DO-pod. I don’t try stuff, I DO STUFF! I MAKE IT HAPPEN! I run and sit and lay and jump and play just like anybody else! You think missing that leg bothers me? Not in the slightest. What bugs me is when I’m doing my job and you don’t get it! That guy with the big truck that rings the bell and leaves the boxes at the door? Yeah. He’s here to attack every last one of you. Those people walking their dogs along my sidewalk like it ain’t no thing? Well buddy, it IS a thing AND GET OFF MY SIDEWALK. That dog that looks a lot like me when I walk past a darkened window? You KNOW he’s up to no good with a face that handsome. Shoot. This is hard work! Serious business! But truthfully… now come in real close, because I’m about to tell you something I don’t tell just anyone… I’m really not that big of a tough guy. I just want to do a really good job at being the best dog I can be and have you keep me forever. I’m no Allman Brothers Ramblin’ Man. I need a place to lay down roots and sit. Stay. Be at home. I should probably go to a home with older kids or no kids. I love em, but sometimes a guy can get a little confused. I love other dogs but I can’t stand those dang cats. They’re good for chasin’ and nothing more. But hey! What I don’t have in cat patience, I make up for in leash manners! And I’m smart as a whip! Come on. Take a shine to this good ol’ boy (See what I did there?! That’s called WORD PLAY! My name is Shine! ‘Take a SHINE???! GET IT? Told ya I was smart!). I’ll do my best not to let you down. I gotta go for now. The cable guy is here and he’s ALWAYS planning a siege.
