UPDATE 1/11/18:
Zeke and his twin brother Jacob came to us as unclaimed strays from Animal Control on 9/6/17. Very handsome, Black and Tan Coonhounds about a year old and weighing 40 pounds each, Jacob was adopted immediately but Zeke is still waiting for his forever home. He is a very handsome little guy, doing his best to be a polite puppy. He wears long, very silky ears and prances around on his nice long legs. He has inquisitive, caramel eyes that don’t miss anything, and they will melt your heart when he sets his sights on you. Zeke has gained a little weight since these photos were taken and he needed to.
Zeke LONGS TO BE WITH PEOPLE and you can see it in his eyes. They light up when he sees people he knows and he tap dances on his little feet as he hopes they have come to spend time with him. Zeke has many great traits and is VERY READY to be someone’s best buddy. He:
- loves exploring in the big yard—especially if we are out there with him; he likes having company. He runs, play bows, comes when called, and often walks right beside us…just to BE with us.
- does not fire up at other dogs and enjoys kissing most other dogs through the fence line. He is looking forward to having a doggie playmate soon.
- is getting better on a leash all the time and he does not appear to be a digger or a climber.
- curls up into a tiny little ball when he sleeps and he doesn’t destroy the soft blankets on his bed.
- knows and responds to SIT, WAIT, and COME.
- barks to get your attention, but then calms down. He very much wants you to notice him.
- likes kids but because he is youthful and sometimes rambunctious, he would do best with kids aged 6 or older.
- His new family will have to give him plenty of exercise because he does have energy to burn. They might have fun enrolling him in a basic dog training program. He is treat motivated and should be easy to train because of it. He accepts treats with a very gentle mouth.
The Black and Tan Coonhound is known to be an easygoing, friendly dog that gets along with almost everyone, including children and other dogs. This breed does very well with a family in a rural or suburban home. A lot of leashed walks and/or a nice big fenced yard suites them very well.
GOOD WITH DOGS. GOOD WITH KIDS.
