Adopt a Chihuahua (short coat)
Cookie Dough 10lb Chi chi the Dog needs a home
Cookie Dough is a typically scared little 10lb 4-5y Chi chi and rightfully so as almost everyone including the cats are bigger than he is!
here is what the shelter said, we are just getting to know him
Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed.
Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft.
Squeeze 1: 2. Dog quickly pulls back his paw.
Squeeze 2: 2. Dog quickly pulls back his paw.
Toy: 3. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. His body is stiff.
Summary: Cookie allowed all handling. When in possession of the toy, he became a bit tense when the hand went near it.
DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Summary
PLAYGROUP: 9/7: When introduced off leash to dogs, Andrew is fearful and keeps to self.
9/9: Cookie keeps only to himself.
9/12: Cookie is fearful and keeps to himself.
INTAKE BEHAVIOR: Upon intake, Cookie was scared.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 9/7/17 During his initial medical exam, Cookie was tense but allowed handling.
ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Cookie so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. In the care center, he displays a medium-low level of activity.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with behaviors outlined below)
_X_No young children (under 5): Due to potential guarding behavior, as well as the level of fear he has at times displayed at the care center, we recommend a home without young children.
Potential challenges:
_X_Resource guarding: Potential resource guarding was noted on his assessment as Cookie was observed to become stiff when in possession of a toy. For this reason, we advise against ever removing items from Cookie's possession without safely trading for an item or greater or equal value. Guidance from a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended to aid in safely managing/modifying this behavior in a new home environment if the behavior presents a problem.
_X_Fearful: Cookie is a bit fearful at the care center. It is important to always go slow and give Cookie the option to walk away from any social interaction. Cookie should never be forced to approach anything that he is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be Cookie’s choice to approach a new person or thing. Cookie would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to his new surroundings.

Many of us (cats/dogs) will be on display on on Sundays and sometimes on Saturdays--please ask by writing us at [email protected] and following us on FB. If you are seriously interested in adopting one of us in particular, please fill out an application by Friday so that we can be sure to be there. Otherwise we decide based on other variables. Usually we are in our foster homes so this is a bit more stressful and a slightly artificial environment but we do want to be seen and find our furever homes too.
