Adopt a Chihuahua (long coat)

Monty is a 3 year old male pure bred long haired chihuahua. Monty is partially paralyzed at the low lumbar sacral area ... right at the area his hind legs start. We are not sure what Montys long term prognosis will be as he has sensation in his legs and feet. He also has some movement of his legs. But most likely he will have done impairment of his gait and may remain partially paralyzed. Monty has bladder control and does not need bladder expression. He has sensation when he needs to have a bowel movement but has no rectal tone. He does not leak stool he has 2-3 normal bowel movements daily just like any other dog. We usually place him in his cart morning and night and he runs around outside and poops that way. If he poops in his kennel he hops off his bed and goes on a pee pad. Monty is a teacup he only weighs 4 lbs. Monty gets physical therapy which involves exercises 3-4 times a day which takes 15 minutes each time. He also needs walked in his cart or walking harness twice a day. He is very sweet, sassy and loving. Monty also requires bathing 4-5 times a day when he pottys. We wash him in the sink. This is to remove any urine that may get on his skin when he pottys. Monty would do best in a home with someone retired, works from home or can go home on lunch to wash him off. Monty is a special needs dog but deserves the chance to have a forever home. He doesn't realize he has a disability and we don't treat him like he does... he is just a regular kid like our others. Monty is looking for his amazing, special person that will be the great companion that he is. All of our dogs have been spayed or neutered, have had nasal Bordetella (prevents kennel cough), DA2PPVL shots (prevents Distemper and Parvo), a rabies shot if older than 16 weeks, have been micro chipped, dewormed with Drontol (a top of the line dewormer) are on heart worm preventative, had their ears and teeth checked, and given a over all check by the vet. Our dogs come with a folder containing all their veterinary information, their next months dose of heart worm preventative, coupons for dog food, and a training DVD. Adoption application, reference check, and home visit required prior to adoption. We will consider out of state adoptions provided we are able to locate another rescue group to do the home visit. The adoptive family will be required to come to our location to pick up their new family member, we do not transport our dogs. We are a 501c3 non profit organization and are Illinois state licensed.
