Adopt a Great Pyrenees / Mixed (medium coat)

Great Pyrenees / Mixed (medium coat) Dog

Honor the Dog needs a home

Children in the home must be at least 6 years old.

Previous dog experience is required, preferably large breed.

Female Great Pyrenees rarely cohabitate with other females successfully. Our goal is for each adoption to be a permanent placement, therefore homes that already have a female dog are not eligible to adopt a female Pyr.

It is our privilege to introduce you to Honor! She is a gorgeous Pyr, probably mixed with a little Anatolian because she’s so lean. Honor is a bit timid and shy to start, but extremely affectionate once she trusts you. Her M.O. when she sees someone she likes is to run up to them and smush her head into their hand, and then stare up at them with her big soulful eyes like, “Hey, where you been?!” She’ll then throw herself down on her back so she can get a belly rub :) Her foster mom believes she’d be great with kids because she’s so gentle. Honor gets along with the resident dogs and all the other animals at her foster home – she’s charmed them all, including the hard-to-impress other Pyr! She’s a happy gal when out with the pack, always wagging her tail with a big grin on her face. She’d do best in home with another dog so as to develop her house skills (although she is already housebroken). When it comes to protective instincts, Honor gets an A+! She’s a hardworking dog and wants to show the rest of the pack what a good job she can do in guarding against cars that drive by, and enjoys barking away, like a pro. This exceptionally pretty girl rides well in the car, doesn’t seem to be interested in digging, and is very smart – when she first arrived at her foster home, she went off on her own to watch everyone and see what was the 'normal' there, and once she understood how things worked, she fit herself in perfectly. And now she seeks a home in which she can perfectly fit furever!

About Us: National Great Pyrenees Rescue (NGPR) is not a shelter. We are a not-for-profit, tax-exempt coalition of Pyr rescuers and rescue groups. We save Pyrs and Pyr mixes across the country and place them in approved foster homes so we know how they will interact with
your
family. Please consider adopting or fostering. Every dog who is fostered or adopted makes room for another Pyr coming out of a kill shelter. Prior to adoption, NGPR dogs are fostered for a minimum of two weeks (usually more), spayed or neutered and fully vetted. Dogs coming from out of area are certified with a USDA health certificate before going to their new homes. Our rescuers adhere to the highest placement standards and will take back any dog whose adoption does not succeed. Visit www.nationalpyr.org to learn more about us, our mission and our breed.
