Meet Blade! Blade is a shepherd/lab mix that is approximately nine months old! He is a big boy, already 45 pounds, so he is most likely going to be a large dog. He is a happy dog with a wagging tail and sleek black coat. Blade is very friendly, he is excited to meet new people and go new places! So far, he has liked everyone that he has met, including other dogs and children, although he has not met cats yet. Although he does well with children, his size and excited energy may be overwhelming to small children, and he would probably do best in a home with older children. He is an affectionate dog and always happy! He loves to play and run outside, and his favorite toy to play with are tennis balls, which he likes to fetch! He is very playful, and has lots of energy, but will settle after play time. If a fenced in yard is not an option for him, he will need lots of daily walks and opportunities for off-leash play at the dog park, which would be the next best thing. A tired dog is a good dog! Dogs of all ages also benefit from mental stimulation - think puzzle toys and games! Blade is working on his training, so far he has crate training down. He will still need to work on house training, leash training, and his basic commands. We highly recommend that all of our dogs attend basic obedience training, because you get to learn the commands together, and it offers opportunities for confidence building and socialization for the dog. It's lots of fun, too! It will also help strengthen the ever important bond between the family and the dog. A well-mannered, obedient dog will be welcomed almost anywhere you take him! Blade is ready to find his new family, could it be with you? Fill out an application for Blade today, don't wait!
Medical Note: This dog was treated for Demodectic Mange while in the SOS program. This dog has responded well to this treatment. Please note that Demodex can flare up in any dog in times of stress (eg, transport, transition to a new home, change in food, etc.). As such, the adopter is advised to discuss this condition and best next steps with their veterinarian. SOS recommends that dogs with a history of demodectic mange be kept on regular NexGard or Bravecto for flea/tick prevention for at least 3 months or until 18 months of age.
