Adopt a Brittany (medium coat)

   Hi Everyone, meet Cooper NBRAN's latest senior boy READY to find his FOREVER HOME!

Cooper is a Orange & White neutered male, estimated to be about 10 years old. Cooper came to NBRAN as a stray from a shelter in Illinois, so unfortunately we have no previous history on his life before he came to us.  Cooper came to NBRAN un-neutered, Lyme & Heartworm positive but now after great foster care here in Central PA he is well on the road to recovery. Cooper is now updated on all vetting including having completed treatment for both heartworm and Lyme's.

   Cooper is a tall Brittany and weighs in at about 40#. He has lots of energy for a senior guy so he would love a back yard with a tall physical fence and a friend to play with too. His prey drive seems high so we recommend NO cats unless they are willing to teach him a lesson or two. He’d also need a lessons on chickens, too. He can be pretty bouncy and very strong, so older children would probably be better. Since he was a stray and is still in need of some training breed savvy parents would probably be a good idea. Cooper is crate trained having spend a great deal of time in his crate for his heartworm treatment these last 2 months in addition to exercise restrictions. He is house trained. He has a little potty dance that his foster parents look for. If he’s out of his crate, he’ll go to the door and dance. He can climb up and down uncarpeted stairs with no trouble. He rarely barks. He also eats in his crate alongside the 3 other resident Brittanys and has shown no food aggression as they nose around inches from him. Nor does he worry when another dogs uses “his” toys. Cooper loves balls and other toys. He loves to dig in the toy box for his favorite of the moment. He’ll pull out a toy, throw it on the ground, flop on his back, and roll on the toy. He is a strong chewer; Kongs and marrow bones are his favorite.

His foster Mom says he should have been named, George, as in Curious George, as his nose never seems to stop working.  He wants to sniff every corner, bag, box, bush, and tree. On walks, his nose is on the ground catching all possible smells. He wants to see what’s on the kitchen counter; so its best not to leave out temptations.

Cooper can be a little shy around new people and things and hides behind his Foster Mom, but he warms up nicely. Cooper's foster Mom also says his  vocabulary is growing. He can “sit”,  “wait” at the door, although we are still careful with all open outside doors and he waits in a sit/down while I walk around the room. He knows “this way” which guides him in the right direction on a walk. He can wrap himself and me in his leash faster than you can say “let’s go”. He might have some shepherd genes in him because he tries to herd me to his direction. He can walk very nicely on a leash, but only headed toward home. His outbound leash needs more work or the half-hitch around his belly. He understands “no” and “drop it”. They are even beginning to play around with early agility in the basement. Way to Go Cooper!

Cooper's adoption fee is 200.00, which will help NBRAN cover the vetting costs and other expenses associated with bringing Brit like Cooper  back to good health and readying them for adoption. However, being a senior boy  Cooper also is apart of the senior to Senior adoption program, so ask your State coordinator for details.,  Don't live in PA or close by, No Problem!  NBRAN also has a wonderful transport team who will help bring Cooper to his new family, up to 1400 miles with the adoptive family being responsible for the last 100 miles, at no additional fee.
