Adopt a Coton de Tulear

Coton de Tulear Dog

Shallbe the Dog needs a home

Shallbe is a Coton de Tulear. She is 12 Years old, 22 lbls, Healthy (with some controllable issues - see below), Housebroken and wee wee pad trained, Spayed, Up to date on shots. She is a overweight but will slim down if she can be walked more often for exercise.  Although she is healthy she does have some issues that require upkeep.

1) She has severe dry eye, and does not produce ANY tears... so she requires artificial tears - drops 2-3 times a day if possible. and tacrolimus prescription drops 2 times a day.

2) She has allergic dermatitis that is now controlled with a completely fish only diet (no chicken, lamb, beef etc) This goes for treats too! Only fish diet with no other protein ingredients in it. She is currently on Blue Buffalo Canned Fish and Sweet Potato diet. (DO NOT... go off this diet or she can break out in sores on her skin) Even then she often will get a few dry crusty patches so we also give her 1/2 a 10 mg Zyrtec Tablet 2 times a day to keep it under control and she should only be bathed (at least every 2-3 weeks) with a medicated shampoo called: MALASEB Anti Fungal Shampoo

She loves to follow you around and be petted and give licks... She loves to go for walks! She loves belly rubs and will roll over to get them. She is now used to getting her drops in her eyes and is good for it. She is really a love when you get to know her and loves to be with her human! She just needs someone to give her a chance. She is fine with being left alone for a few hours and hardly barks ever. Only on occasion if you are late with her breakfast LOL.

She does not like her tail or back legs to be played with, brushed, cleaned or fussed with. She may try to nip initially, but is more of a faker... (lol) she tries to nip then licks you...So we prefer someone who is a strong leader. This will subside once she gets to trust you and love you. She needs an adult home with no young children under the age of 15 and an EXPERIENCED dog owner and STRONG PACK LEADER that has the patience and know how to help Shallbe with adjusting to her new home.

To go to the vet or the groomer she has to be muzzled to be safe and make it easy for the vet and groomer (which I have one for her & she is fine with it)

She prefers to be the only pet in the home... She does sniff and wag her tail at some dogs, but will growl and bark if they go near her bed or food or if they are alpha or aggressively trying to jump on her.

She also will do this sometimes meeting dogs on leash so she should NEVER be let off leash to play with other dogs!

She is partially blind from the years of untreated dry eye (but can see shadows) and sees well enough to get around her surroundings once she knows them and to walk outside with you on a leash (just watch for holes or things sticking up out of the ground and steer her away from them as she doesn't see little things well)

She is also has diminished hearing but can hear loud claps or vibrations or very loud voices.

Due to her weight and site issues she can not climb stairs (one or 2 is ok with the help of a leash) but no more than that. She is about 22 lbs and pretty heavy to pick up and carry (if you ever did have to go up stairs)
