Adopt a Setter / Spaniel / Mixed (medium coat)

Scout is a 6 year old neutered male setter and spaniel mix (best guess) who is approx. 65 pounds.  Scout is social and often playful with other dogs whether big or small, puppy or senior. Scout is housetrained and will let you know when he has to go out. He has been around kids 8 and 10 years of age but never alone with the kids, he has not lived permanently in a home with kids.  He's not the best fit for a toddler as he’s not aware of his size and leans against people - this would knock a small child down.  He does bark when left alone initially but settles down after a bit.  He will bark if he sees someone coming up the driveway or walking across the property line.  Walking mannerly on leash has been an area of training for him over the past 6 months.  He is excellent with his training collar (gentle leader) and will now walk well but will need continued training with leash walking.

He loves people and has had many people come in and out of his home over the years. He can be a bit of a couch potato but now enjoys playing with the tennis ball and dog toys.  He is low to moderate energy level. He would be best-suited in a home where there is only one other dog and ideally with an owner who is retired and has more time to continue training.  Scout is not a fan of baths or nail trims although was fine the last time. He loves to be brushed and have his hair dried with the hair dryer. He is good with the vet and does not mind being examined and the vet describes him as sweet. He shows no reaction to ears being touched or cleaned. He is not food or toy possessive and likes his belly rubbed. 

Scout wants to please and is very obedient for the most part. He does like to lounge on furniture but current caregivers are working on “off”. He is a gentle giant and has never shown any aggression.   He is a sweet boy and also intelligent, independent, confident and clever, but will listen to his caregiver.  He is food motivated and eagerly works to receive a tasty treat.  A GEM!
