Although we are a senior rescue, we sometimes help younger animals when we have space to do so. Almira was one we couldn't leave behind- she was going to be euthanized because a traumatic injury to her tail resulted in a need for amputation, but without rescue commitment the shelter couldn't perform the surgery. It was an easy fix but no one stepped up, so Almira flew from North Carolina with 4 seniors and we booked her for surgery up here. Unfortunately, her torn up tail was not her only issue: the vet found that she had a diaphragmatic hernia, and could not have her tail amputated, be spayed, or just live a long life without having it repaired. So we went to a specialist to have all 3 surgeries done at once. It was a risky procedure with a long recovery, and Almira almost didn't make it through, but now she is completely recovered and living happily with a nubby tail and lots of friends.

?

Almira lives with cats young and old, and learned to be friends with dogs when she was recovering on crate rest. She is a little shy with new people but warms up very quickly and is a soft, squishy cuddle bug. Please consider giving Almira the good life she has been missing!
