Get ready for all of the compliments you will get when you walk a dog like Oreo. She is a beautiful, extremely healthy, well behaved pointer/pitbull mix that has a simple and lovable personality. Walking is her favorite thing to do because she loves to explore and smell everything! She tends to ignore most dogs and humans because she is so focused on the walk and the smells ahead. She will make frequent stops to smell something or eat a little grass (which has never affected her) but a simple tug and “C’mon” will snap her out of it. Oreo tends to pull if there is a squirrel or rabbit nearby. If you find an area of woods that you can let her off the leash, she will be in heaven and will stay relatively close.
Oreo is pretty good with the basic commands (come, sit, stay) especially on walks or at home but could use some work when she is off the leash. She is house trained and kennel trained. She has always been allowed on couches or the bed but will get inside of a kennel if told. She mostly sleeps until you come home. Oreo is surprisingly good when it comes to taking baths. She will get into the tub on her own and will even wait for the command “come” to jump out. She is also better than most when it comes to trimming her nails. Oreo rarely barks! If she sees another dog or would like some attention, she will whine but only for a short moment.
Oreo is incredibly good when it comes to food. She is a social eater which means she only eats when someone is around and it is okay to have food in her bowl throughout the day. She takes treats nicely and will even “wait” if a treat is placed in front of her. Oreo is also very good with human food. She sits like a statue when she is begging and will not snatch your food even when it is face level but would obviously love a little taste if you are feeling generous.
Oreo is not a big fan of toys but it doesn’t hurt to try something new every once in a while. She doesn’t fetch or play tug of war but likes a little horse play and enjoys tearing apart stuffed animal toys. What she likes most, besides walks, are treat related toys such as antlers, pig ears, peanut butter kongs, and treat dispensing toys.
Oreo tends to be a bit skittish when it comes to unexpected noises which also relates to her uneasiness during a storm. She has a similar reaction to fireworks as well. Oreo cannot be around small children and you must be cautious with her around new dogs. Most of the time, she wants to play with the dogs she meets and will get hyper but every once in a while, she will not like a dog after the first smell and then react. She has made many doggy friends in the past so don’t let that discourage you from trying!
Oreo loves attention so the more people she can hang out with the better! Give her a good belly rub or a rough face massage and she will love you.
