Adopt a Rat Terrier / Mixed (short coat)
Congress (MD) the Dog needs a home
Congress is a 25-lb. hunk with the most adorable little underbite smile. A Rat Terrier possibly mixed with something equally handsome, 7-year-old Congress loves to snuggle on the couch or bed and have his tummy rubbed. He is reliably house-trained and responds to basic commands like sit, off, stay, wait, and come. Congress’s energy level is moderate. He doesn’t have much interest in toys, but he loves going on walks or to the park or on a hike. He’s happiest when he can run off leash, so a fenced yard or access to another safely fenced area would be perfect. Congress does need a home where there are no toddlers or small children as he is very uncomfortable around them and will nip if he feels cornered or overwhelmed. Congress tolerates other dogs that aren’t pushy and will leave him alone, but he really doesn’t like them invading his space, especially when on a walk or when he’s with his people. Congress is very in tune with the emotions of the people around him. If his walker is anxious when approaching another dog or stranger, he will pick up on that and is more likely to be hostile. If introduced to others in a relaxed environment, he will be relaxed himself. He is curious about cats and has lived around them, but he will chase them if they run from him. Congress is an incredibly loyal dog, will bond tightly to his human, and be a great companion for someone who enjoys walking or hiking and giving tummy rubs.
