Myrtle the Cat needs a home
Beautiful, sweet, quiet It is perhaps not a coincidence that the name Myrtle rhymes with turtle, because our Myrtle - she of the gorgeous eyes and beautiful calico coat - will likely be spending much of her time slowly venturing out of her shell after 9 months in the shelter. Understandably, Myrtle is still learning to trust humans and their motives. She does seem quite happy to get some affection while she is in her familiar bed/space, to the extent that she contentedly kneads whatever surface she's on, occasionally displaying an amusing behavior of using one paw to knead the side of her head as well. Beyond that though, she's reluctant to initiate much interaction on her own. Keeping pretty much to herself, Myrtle voices tentative meows as she explores the nooks and crannies of her foster's place, but only when it's nice and quiet. And she reserves any active toy-play for when the local humans have evacuated the area. As for other animals in the house, there's not been much interaction with her foster's other cat, but Mrytle did seem to do just fine with the cats she spent time with in the shelter. She gets along fine with her foster's two large dogs too, as long as they respect her space - otherwise it's a dash to higher ground for our Myrtle. Right now, as she slowly but surely learns to trust humans, she'll still recoil at the quick movements of children determined to pet her. (Kids! Whaddya gonna do?) Clearly, a nice, quiet home with patient and loving co-inhabitants (even ones who travel a lot) would be a most welcome environment for Myrtle the Turtle until she finally feels comfortable leaving her shell behind. All APA! cats are fully vetted, spayed or neutered, and have updated vaccines and a microchip. Lifetime support is offered by our Cat Behavior Team.
