Adopt a Australian Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat)
Cooper the Dog needs a home
Looking to adopt an Aussie? If you are applying to adopt Coover we request you THOROUGHLY read this detailed and long bio to KNOw who Cooper is and what kind of adopted we are looking for him. Thank you! And check out his videos
Meet Cooper! Cooper was adopted from ARWOB back in 2015 when he was 5 months old. At the time he was adopted, he was a happy, loving, well behaved typical pup. He was full of shenanigans like most puppies, but he got along with all animals and people. A fantastic pup!
Sadly Cooper’s owners have relinquished him and he came back to ARWOB in September 2017. He is now a full grown typical Aussie mix with a few trust issues towards strangers. We are seeking an experienced dog owner that has knowledge of Aussie personalities to keep Cooper mentally stimulated and physically active. And out of trouble!
The ideal adopter will be a house WITHOUT children and preferably without cats. However, we do think he will be fine with children who are respectful of dogs and supervised. Cooper always says hi to children when out on walks or if they approach to pet him. Of course this applies to the children who say hi in a none threatening manner. like most dogs Cooper will
not tolerate a child pulling at his tail or approaching him inappropriately.
He has lived in a home with multiple dog savvy cats and he will walk around them in the living room but his Foster notes he will try to take adv of the cats aren't supervised or cornered in a room of the home without direct supervision for this reason a home without cats is best Unless the home has a particular set up like his current Foster.
When cooper came back to us in September because he nip a friend who entered the previous owners home and gotten to a chicken in the yard as well as dog aggression we didn't know what we were going to expect. We were pleased when we received cooper and realized this guy is an amazing dog with just a few quirks — he needs a steady, safe, and structured home in order to build his confidence around strangers and new situations.
WHO is cooper as of 01/2018
Cooper is a 48lb dog who could loose 2-3 lbs. Cooper seeks to be loved. He melts in your hands when petting him and loving him. His smile is infectious when he meets new people who wants to pet him, he loves attention! He is SMART oh SO very smart!
he has basic training like sit stay shake and other easy basic commands.
He is house and crate trained. He has never had an accident in the house. He doesn't destroy things but he loves his toys. He loves food but is not a food hound. Loves walks and car rides.
He loves to cuddle in bed and total love bug. He is not a big barker the only time he barks is when hints are going around his home or if warning for something. He also is not a yappy badly dog when people enter the home or when he walks ei no leash reactivity BUT there are certain situations and people or scenarios that will get him Riled up and his new adopted will need to be observant to be able to avoid issues for example: when walking him and he encounters construction crews or gardners, also Ups trucks or motorcyclea, scooters. He tends to get excited and bark at those when they go by.
Cooper is great with dogs. Has lived with his Foster since he Cameron to arwob in September and many dogs from different breeds ages and size. Cooper is good friends with many and with some it takes a little to come around but he doesn't start or look for fights. He knows when a dog is alpha or strong personality and he too can be growly with that introduction and easily correctable. Puppies or dogs who have no boundary concept and are in his face being "licky face" he will not tolerate and growl or try to snap but if you correct the other dogs and they present themselves well he will terste them and slowly over the period of couple days moves on and doesn't care that they do that and eventually depending on the dogs personality he will play with them. His BFF is Benny the 25 Doxie shep mix and Daphne the 55lb black lab mix. He tends to share toys and likes to play keep away or tug of war wth people or dogs. cooper is NOT a dog park dog. Cooper needs further training and an adoptee who will be willing and absolutely interested in signing up with a dog trainer/behaviorist to make sure a dog trainer assesses him his new family to train BOtH parties on what is good and not. Cooper is an out of this world easy loving playful smart excellent companion but he is NOT for everyone hence someone who knows how to handle a dog on the otherside of the leash. Someone who is looking for an amazing companion in a dog not necessarily Mr popularity.
Any adopter tee is welcome to meet him and possibly have a trainer assess him to make sure he is the right march for you and even better Foster to adopt him for a month before you make the lifetime commitment. We love cooper and someone is truly missing out on this amazing dog! Don't be scared give him a chance he is easier than you think but work needs to still be done.
We will request adopters show proof of enrollment with a trainer in order to adopt him. Good adopters understand the importance of structure and leadership especially on working dogs and SMART dogs!
We are in immediate need of a foster home for Cooper or a potential adopter that would like to take advantage of our foster-to-adopt program. If you would like to give this handsome boy the loving home he needs and if you feel you have the Aussie skills we are looking for, please fill out an online application right away. Don’t wait!
