Pilgrim the Dog needs a home
is ready for his forever home. At his latest check-up, his Dr. was happy to report "he is doing better than I thought he would be". Good care from his veterinary team and daily care and love from his foster family have given Pilgrim the ability to live the good life. He is a happy little dude with loads of energy and a zest for life.
To insure Pilgrim has full functionality of his leg, he will require continued physical therapy at home; heat, stretching/range of motion and walks. He is also scheduled for strength training at Four Legged Friends and a follow up appointment at AMSC in north Phoenix in February that will require transportation.
If you are interested in Pilgrim, please visit our webpage at http://www.arizonagoldenrescue.org/ and complete an Online Adoption Application to begin the process, or send an e-mail to [email protected] if you have questions and wish to be contacted.
12/23/17 Update:
Pilgrim's foster Mom says "He is walking much easier every day. Once he figures out he doesn't hurt & gains some strength & stamina, it will be off to the races! My oldies won't play with him as much as he likes, so he lays on them. LOL! He acts much younger than 2... He is a cutie."
12/07/17 Update: Pilgrim had his sutures out and is doing well. He is starting to use his leg more with pretty good range of motion. He can now do short walks around the yard or block.
12/1/17 Update: Pilgrim is in a loving foster home, where he will stay to complete his rehab. He is doing fantastic. His foster Mom is giving him a rave review. "He is 1 week post surgery for his elbow & will have staples for another week. He is supposed to be taking it easy but really wants to play with our pack. VERY sociable, people & dogs! All the vet techs were in love with him, didn't want him to leave. We will foster until he is released from rehab. He is out of his sling & to do shoulder range of motion PT exercise 4 x per day. It's gonna be tough to keep this good dog down even for his own good."
Pilgrim is a very sweet 46 pound Golden mix estimated to be 2 years old. We're looking for a special family to adopt him. Pilgrim was new hoped to AGR from the shelter with an injured leg/paw, unable to put any weight on it. We rushed him to our specialists and it was determined his elbow was completely out of socket and likely had been for awhile. X-rays also showed a broken pelvis that is healing and left hip damage. Despite his obvious pain his tail never stopped wagging and he was happy to meet everyone.
Pilgrim underwent a 2 hour surgery and his elbow joint was pinned together. Due to the length of time since it happened, he may require further work which AGR will cover. Right now his leg is in a sling. In terms of rehab, Pilgrim needs to remain quiet, no playing and only allowed out to potty on the leash. He will require a small room or pen until two week vet visit. He will probably be able to have his sling removed in two weeks but no playing or dog interactions for a few more weeks.
Prior to adoption, all AGR dogs are given a full vet exam, including valley fever and heartworm tests, brought up to date on all vaccinations, given a microchip, neutered or spayed, and treated for any medical problems.
