Mat the Dog needs a home
Welcome to Northern Virginia, Mat! This happy beagle mix just arrived from a tiny Virginia town of 300 people, “where there are no street lights and stars are bright at night!” Mat was surrendered to our rescue partner by his previous owner whose son was soon to go away to college, and didn’t want Mat to end up with a hunter, facing a life of being penned up or chained outside. Mat has just arrived, and after a warm bath and a bowl of crunchy kibble has shown to be a curious and playful pup, coming when called and sitting with only an occasional cue. He is doing well in the crate, loves his toys, and will experience suburbia for the first time as he learns to walk properly on a leash and becomes familiar with the sights and sounds of a densely populated environment. Mat has wonderful eye contact with adults (has no experience with children), and gets along with other dogs (cats are not interested in playing with him). Still a typical pup, he needs training, supervision and distractions to keep away from cords, shoes, people’s belongings. Mat is making good progress with housebreaking. This beagle boy loves to learn and thrives on exercise. He would also do well in a large, fenced yard where he can run full out...he loves the snow!
