Adopt a German Shepherd Dog
Will (Training Hold) the Dog needs a home
REQUIRED:
1) No children below 16 years old, NO exceptions.
2) NO small animals (cats, small dogs, etc.) in the home due to a high small-prey drive.
WILL is a fun-loving 1.5 year old, black and tan male, who was confiscated as part of a large scale hoarder seizure, which also included his female sidekick, Grace. When Will first came to MOGS, he weighed less than 1/3 of his expected weight, was completely unsocialized to people, and struggling with multiple medical issues related to extreme starvation.
Temperament
Will is working on leash manners and is slowly learning to be a good member of the household. He was quite disappointed to learn that his foster doesn’t allow pups on the furniture but despite his disappointment has followed the rules. Will loves to play ball and will run around his yard with a ball in his mouth happy as can be. All balls, all the time! Despite an extensive history of neglect, he isn’t food or toy possessive. He settles down easily but isn’t a big cuddler yet; too much to do! He will gladly be your alarm clock when the sun comes out though.
Will is also very vocal, so he needs to be in a single-family home where his whining/barking (when left alone or super excited) will not disturb close neighbors.
Other Animals
Will needs a fenced yard and a dog companion of similar size or larger. He learns best from another dog and is very attached to his confident foster sibling who shows him the house rules.
He has a high prey drive and will chase cats and small dogs.
Children
Will is very scared of smaller children and their frantic, energetic, sudden movements so he will need to be in a home with older teenagers who will be respectful of his fears and space.
DOGS: Does well with other medium to large dogs after a supervised introduction. Needs a doggy buddy, of similar or larger size, in his forever home. (No small dogs)
CATS: No
KIDS: No children under the age of 16.
IDEAL FAMILY: A quiet family with another dog.
WILL'S ADOPTION FEE: $300
This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. On average we spend over $450 on each dog. We made a decision to keep our adoption fee at the 2005 level even though vet prices have doubled and tripled since then. We are constantly fundraising to cover the deficit. At minimum, your adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea preventives, and microchip. In many cases it also includes surgery and various types of vet treatment for standard issues such as hot spots, ear infections and so on.
