Atlanta Pet Rescue & Adoption saves dogs and cats from animal control facilities where they have a very low chance of survival. Once rescued, these animals receive all the medical attention they need before being adopted into pre-screened homes. All dogs and cats are fully vaccinated, treated for parasites and spayed or neutered. Many require additional care for heartworms, broken bones, mange and other diseases/conditions. While many rescue groups turn away sick animals, APRA believes every good pet deserves a second chance. Aside from providing the basics of food, water and shelter, APRA creates an enriching environment with social interaction and mental stimulation. Dogs spend their days in communal pens outfitted with beds, blankets and toys. Doggie doors allow them access to the yard. Cats are comfortably housed in their own room with scratching posts, ledges, bedding and toys. Volunteers walk the dogs, provide affection and teach basic training. Fosters take animals requiring additional attention into their homes. APRA believes in the importance of community programs. The partnership with the SHARE Initiative allows returning soldiers with PTSS and brain injuries to learn new skills at the shelter like dog training and veterinary technology. With CHRIS Kids, at-risk children in foster care come to the shelter to train dogs. In doing so, they improve their listening skills and ability to follow directions while learning about humane animal care and the power of positive reinforcement. Pet Pals takes dogs and cats into nursing homes, bringing smiles to the elderly and reminding them they are not forgotten. When you help Atlanta Pet Rescue & Adoption, you are making a significant contribution in the lives of homeless pets, the families that will adopt them and the public at large. Please join us â?? we love to see new faces! Flexible dates/hours make it easy to work volunteer time into your schedule. Visit us online for more information. APRA is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit - all contributions are tax deductible.
