The Healdsburg Animal Shelter first opened its doors in March of 1960 as a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the welfare of the homeless, stray and unwanted animals of the town of Healdsburg.
We typically handle about 600 animals each year, both stray animals and surrendered pets whose owners either no longer want them, or are unable to keep them. Our programs include adoption and surrender of companion animals, humane education for responsible pet care, and a lost and found service for missing pets.
In addition, we contract with the City of Healdsburg to provide Animal Control services for the community, which include licensing of dogs, pickup and redemption of lost cats and dogs, cruelty and neglect investigations and response and enforcement to public nuisance complaints involving pet animals.
A volunteer Board of Directors oversees the operations of the Animal Shelter and assists in the fundraising efforts for the organization. A small, caring and well-trained staff supplemented by our dedicated volunteers are responsible for the daily care of the animals and keep the facility clean and disease-free.
